Happy Friday, all. I have a special guest that I’d like to introduce today, as well as a new blog that I think you will love. I started following Elise a few months ago when I realized how much we had in common – Elise is a San Diego local, graduate from USC in business (same time as me, though we’ve never met), married a military man, digs house plants and Kilim rugs ;), has a baby girl just a couple of weeks older than Taylor.
She is a crafter by nature and her journey there is an inspiring one (one that I also really connected with having graduated with a a more corporate-minded degree before floating over to something with a little more of a creative edge), Elise’s expertise is in beautiful handmade goods and helpful online tutorials & workshops. Her home is full of inspiration and I’m so happy she’s agreed to share some of her thoughts on home design and favorite inspiration today.
Jump on over to the full interview (with my five usual questions) to learn more about Elise and her home.

What inspires your design style?
I am very inspired by the house we bought last winter. It was built in 1961 and I have enjoyed decorating it to fit that time (mid-century-ish) but still keeping things looking current. The house has wood ceilings and neutral walls (the paint is Benjamin Moore Athena) and Travertine floors so it feels like a blank canvas that needs just a bit of color and tons of wood tones. I have brought so much natural wood grain into this house it’s crazy. :)
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I get to play around with something different all the time. I am a craft blogger and so I am always hopping from one medium to the next. Some days I am running my sewing machine, others I am at Lowe’s getting wood for a new project and others I am playing with paper and photos. I am never bored.
What are your favorite design trends?
Plants! Plants all over the place. It seems like simple potted house plants are showing up in more and more spaces and I love it. (I love it so much I have a pinterest board dedicated to it). :) I also love the gorgeous Kilim rugs that I keep seeing everywhere. Great rugs totally make a room.
What are three design suggestions that you would like to offer readers?
When in doubt, go with black and white.
My absolute favorite frames are $15 at Target and so great in every space.
Don’t fight for it. The “best” decorating ideas will come to you naturally. If you feel like you’re really having to battle to make a trend feel like you or to make a piece of furniture work, it’s not the right fit. Wait for the idea that just makes perfect sense. It will come, I promise.
Can you share a favorite DIY project and why you loved creating it?
My favorite thing I have ever made is a painted script canvas. I took lyrics from the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding and wrote them huge in black paint on a white canvas. The finished piece is 3×4 feet and it makes me happy whenever I look at it.
Thank you, Elise!
