These girls are fabulously innovative with that {effortlessly glam} appeal that keeps you coming back for more great ideas. Their company, Lollipop Events & Designs, offers delightfully original decor solutions and their blog is fantastic!
I love the way that subtle nuances of everyday inspiration — such as the typography of a vintage poster or the bold patterns of fashion week — leave a tangible impact on their beautifully styled events (more on that in the interview). While you can just imagine the work and talent that lies behind the prep and creation of each of their celebrations, each and every one comes off as blissfully uncomplicated and fantastically chic. Their inspiration is accessible to the everyday designer, and that’s why they make an excellent addition to the Friday blog series!
“We transform fanciful ideas into original, fresh and innovative design concepts. We fold in custom illustrations, handmade décor, high-fashion fabrics and imaginative floral designs.” Oh need I say more? {swoon} Follow the link to read the interview and for excellent eye-candy.

{PDB Interview with Lollipop Events & Designs!}

What inspires your design style?
What inspires our design style? What doesn’t!? Everything from fashion trends, colors, patterns and textures walking down a runway to peeking into shop windows and seeing creative styling ideas. Vintage interiors, old films and bygone eras are always inspiring on how to reinterpret classic styles. From Alice in Wonderland, Gone with the Wind to Valley of the Dolls, watching the sets and scenes that were created for these classic films always sparks new inspiration.
For graphic design inspiration, we love to draw off old posters and prints when hand setting letters was an art still performed. After a recent vacation to Hawaii, we noticed that vintage surf posters have the most amazing typography on them! Browsing through old vinyl record albums can also lead us onto endless inspiration. We also adore vintage beauty ads showing off Parisian perfumes, classic Revlon from the 40’s and other chic make up ads.
What do you love most about what you do?
When style meets form and function you know you have succeeded. An idea is just an idea until you bring it to life. When we combine all of our talents, including backgrounds of styling, interior design and illustration, we can really bring theory into practice. Seeing that wow moment when it all comes together makes it all worth it, especially when you see how a bride or client gushes to her guests about what you have done, we know we’ve succeeded. Being able to come to work everyday and push your creativity levels off the charts while spending time with your best friends is really a dream come true.
What are your favorite design trends?
The answer to that question is constantly evolving but right now we’re loving the batik cool pastels off of the Oscar de la Renta runways, we just incorporated that same color palette into a Hawaiian luxe wedding that we cant wait to show off! The over the top geometric, graphic and colorful 80’s revival is just so fun!!! We’re really also loving the uber glam, ultra indulgent style of the Jerry Hall-esque late 70’s vibe Valentino and other designers have been showing. I’m seeing rich golds, jewel tones and even tactile velvets for a luxurious winter affair.
I think following trends too much is a road that you need to be careful about because trends become trends when too many people follow the same inspiration, so mixing up your styles and pushing the envelope further then others is a sure fire way to stay fresh! Why not create your own trends?
What are three design suggestions that you would like to offer our readers?
{1} Don’t play it safe! Whenever we doubt a design decision and worry about pulling it back, we know that’s probably where we should be. Showing your personal style can expand from your closet to your table, so we love to be daring and have fun.
{2} Don’t have a big budget for your event or special occasion? Go vintage! We find so many great finds at thrift stores and vintage boutiques that we repaint or refinish. Mix up several china patterns and fabrics to create a new look.
{3} Also, look for materials in the unexpected areas! We recently took non-slip colored rubber foam lining for kitchen cabinets, cut them into circles, and voila! Super chic and colorful placemats. Above all: have fun!
Thank you, Cortnie, Jen & Vanessa of Lollipop Events & Designs!
