Wardrobe Style Board: Vacation Time

With summer solstice just a few days behind us, it is officially warm-weather, school-is-out, June-Gloom-is-nearing-an-end vacation season. We will be sticking close to home for the next couple of months, but perhaps a staycation in late, late summer is in order for our growing family? Come to think of it, maybe even the promise of family visiting (moonlighting as babysitters) and a day trip out on our own to dinner (or the beach?) will suffice for our vacation this year.

Either way, I’m excited to share with you Anna Kate’s style boards for sweet summer outings this season. It might take me a while to fit back into my breezy summer dresses and cute swimsuits, but these two layouts have me motivated. Let me turn it over to AK.

Hello PDB readers! I’m doing my best to stay cool here in Arizona, so I’m dreaming of loose, airy Summer dresses and sandals. I LOVE this dress! The elephant print is really fun and interesting, especially paired with a bright yellow necklace and fun bird clutch! This outfit is perfect for a warm night out while on Summer vacation!

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned the outrageous AZ Summer heat yet (yeah right), but it’s really hot. If I could, I would live in the pool for the next three months! I love this red suit from JCrew- the color is really flattering, the underwire is so necessary, and the sweet scalloped edges are really pretty and special. And it’s on sale! I would wear it with neutral, beachy accessories to make me feel like I’m on a beach vacation every day!

Ahhh summery deliciousness, thanks AK (ps you can find her at any time blogging over here). I’m especially loving the hot mama swimsuit, yellow Anthropologie necklace and wide brimmed straw hat right about now. I’ve been sporting my own version – straw hat, not hot mama swimsuit – as the sizzling sun breaks through our June Gloom out here in SD, too and it’s been the world’s best investment.

PS Speaking of swimsuits and sweet summer finds, you can find all of the style boards as well as links to the above pieces right over here in the gallery.

*Giveaway* SANUS Flat Screen TV Mount

Congrats to Nichole K. on winning the SANUS TV mount! Big thank you to everyone who entered, winner was chosen using random.org.

We are talking about getting a new TV for our living room and I can’t help but think that a mounted version (with no wires and no boxes visible) will be the only way to go. Right now we have a mess of wires attached to various boxes (DVD and Apple TV, mainly) and maybe four remotes. Drives me crazy.

Mounted TV inspiration…

There is a more important reason for upgrading to mounted though. SANUS is teaming up with Safe Kids Worldwide to share an important message about the dangers of unsecured TVs with households all over the world. Our new modern flat screens are tall and thin and heavy – perfect targets for easy tipping with a little persuasion from a toddler or child. Did you know for example that every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to an unstable TV? And that a child is killed every three weeks from tipping? When SANUS reached out to me about providing a TV mount as a giveaway to readers while also spreading news about their safety campaign, I was happy to participate.

Here are a couple of wows for you:

  • Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over
  • A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV
  • Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury
  • An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs
  • Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006  to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%

Yes, I think our next TV will most definitely be mounted.

The primary purpose of this post to share knowledge on TV tipping to reduce injuries and fatalities, but as an added bonus SANUS is giving away one mounting kit to a reader! The SANUS kit includes an easy-to-mount system (in a TV size of your choice), steps for basic installation (with no extra tools necessary) and customer support to get it done correctly. Here’s a little safety video for more info.

A Graduation, a 6 Year Anniversary, a Busy Weekend!

We’ve had a busy weekend!

No, Baby S is not here yet. She’s still enjoying her quiet time alone. But as many of you who have been reading this blog for a little while know, Kevin has been a hard-working student who has been putting time in the trenches towards a degree in architecture…

And this Saturday he graduated! So very proud of this huge accomplishment in his life. It’s tough to go back to school with a family and even more so when you’re one of the oldest in your class. But tiny toothpick models (I loved those) and 3D renderings have paid off and he’s made it happen.

Ahh man, I started tearing up during the address almost immediately. So many years, so much dedicated time, so many night classes… I was so happy to be able to be there to see him receive his diploma.

The Salk Institute here in San Diego is truly a stunning commencement location, perfect for a class full of architecture and design students. That backdrop there? The Pacific Ocean for as far as the eye can see.

Beautiful.

After the pomp and circumstance we had a nice lunch overlooking the water with our families.

Next day Liv and I made Grandma’s lemon bars (and a giant picnic lunch) and we headed to the beach to celebrate with friends!

Check out these two as they strike a pose. Baby girl #1 has momma’s crazy hair.

We also celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary! (more about the big day here)

So a busy weekend, no? Hope that you had a wonderful one, too! I’m feeling pretty grateful that this baby has waited long enough for me to celebrate both of these events with Kevin, but now we are ready!

My very uncomfortable sleep/wake/waddle/work schedule is exhaustive… we are ready, ready. We’re like:

Time to Get Out

Awesome clip from here. No but really, we love you sweet baby girl #2. We’re excitedly, anxiously waiting.

PS A back massage from your kids while they play with their toy cars? I must order this asap.
