Be Inspired: Featured Designer Ruthie Sommers

Ruthie Sommers Designer Feature

While answering PDB’s four interview questions for the upcoming Guest Blog this Friday (I’m really looking forward to ‘formally’ meeting ya’ll!), I had the chance to sit down and really consider what tangible inspiration sources I rely on on a regular basis.

One of my favorite go-tos are those individuals that I know do it best: interior designers who have not only proven their worth in portfolio pics and clients, but have also captured a unique style that keeps me coming back looking for more inspirational examples. After all, who better to turn to than those that spend every minute of their day drenched in design — and who are oozing with inspiration that just might rub off on the rest of us (fingers crossed!).

So I thought I might start sharing several of my favorite interior designers by channeling a bit of of their creative energy our direction on a regular basis here at Pepper.

To kick this little series off, I chose one of my very favorites: Ruthie Sommers first came onto my watch list after a showcase on her collaboration with Drew Barrymore in Domino Magazine. More on this after the jump.

In addition to a very successful career as a Los Angeles-based designer (featured in House Beautiful, Traditional Homes, Coastal Living, Architectural Digest, Southern Accents, Lucky and Style Compass — check out this online magazine here) Sommer’s home decor store, Chapman Radcliff Home, has been amazingly fruitful since it’s inception in 2002.

The two things I love most about Ruthie’s designs: {1.} her ability to blend multiple styles seamlessly into one beautiful room (modern lines, vintage furniture, oriental prints…) and {2.} her incorporation of patterns and textiles that bring life and activity to a room, but never come off as over the top.

More eye-candy after the jump! Continue reading

Have a Restful & Relaxing Weekend!

Thanksgiving Decor Inspiration 2009

My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity of hosting our very first Thanksgiving in our new home. It was such a treat!

Thanksgiving Decoration Inspiration 2009 2

To share the holiday in true blogging style, I thought I’d leave you with a snapshot of our table yesterday… all inspired by this fun little brown and orange remnant from the local fabric shop.

The orange and brown solid burlap fabrics (from Ikea) made the perfect complimentary runner — no need to sew, the unraveling edges looked great as is. White milk glass bud vases from around the house made the perfect taper candle holders.

Now off to a sunny San Diego holiday with out-of-town family and friends! Have a restful and relaxing four day weekend.

Our Friday Guest Blog Interview Series will be back next week! Drumroll… I’ll put myself in the hot seat to formally introduce the face behind Pepper by sharing my answers to the four PDB questions. I’m really looking forward to it!!

Creating the ‘Fun’ Table! Thanksgiving for Kids

Creative DIY Kids Table Thanksgiving

Don’t forget the kids this Thanksgiving holiday! We all remember holidays spent at the kids’ table playing and laughing with cousins. To create those special memories today, set up a kid-friendly space and keep it the ‘fun’ table by adding games, coloring, projects and creative decor. Here are a few inspirations that will make everyone excited to sit down! Country Living’s paper covered table is an excellent start (above).

In good weather, set up the table outdoors with little stools and chairs. When kids get tired of sitting still, they can play and run in sight (Country Living tablescape). For steps on how to make your own headdress napking wrap and paper boat place cards check out Martha Steward Living.
