I found this little gem at an antique/thrift store going out of business (best combination ever) and thought it would work great in our master bedroom. While the structure of the chair is my favorite part, the icy blue upholstery is in great shape and works beautifully with the rest of the room’s color palette.
Maybe she’ll receive new fabric some day in the future?
It fits the corner of our bedroom perfectly! More recently it has become a catch-all for every piece of Kevin’s clothing (who needs a dresser when you have an over-sized chair?) but it’s also a great spot to put on shoes or lay out the next day’s outfit.
The jury is still out on the color of the wood… I actually love the light pecan stain but there are enough blemishes that this piece might need an allover sanding and a slightly darker finish.
Or maybe all of those little nicks and bruises provide character? That might be the lazy answer.
I borrowed the nursery’s glider pillow for the photos, but I’ll have to hunt out a fabric for the future.
I’ve found that salvaged furniture is a great way to add well-built pieces to your home (they just don’t make furniture like they used to. at least not in my budget…), but it’s rare to find pieces in good shape. Do you bring thrift store furniture into your home or is the cleaning/refurbishing just too much work?
What a great piece of furniture! Glad you didn’t let it go to waste. Refurnishing and restyling old furniture is a great way to bring some new life to an old, worn down piece. You’ll save tons of money and have the opportunity to blend your own, unique design. Great read!

Great chair. I think if you are planning to spend some time on it it would look great sanded and a fresh varnish or oil OR you could paint it white ….. and add some funky lime green or shocking pink fabric to it … stunning chair love it.

I do think the nicks add character: but I also think that a darker finish would help it complement your room more completely.
I’m not sure, though. It’s always difficult to judge these things until you see them in situ, and it might make the fabric look a little weird by contrast.
What a pretty piece! I often wish I had the patience for refurbishing furniture, but it really can be a time suck – so I just stick to browsing blogs like this to “oooh” and “ahhh”!
Who says old can’t be beautiful! Sometimes you luck out and find a great piece as it. Other times all you need is some sand paper and an afternoon to rediscover a great piece of furniture.

Oh, I forgot to add- maybe as an interim fix for the scratches, you could use a stain marker- I think they’re a Minwax product?
I have a great and dangerous job- assistant manager at a thrift store! Great because I come across those awesome pieces almost every day; dangerous because many of them go home with me! My husband just sighs when I come through the door and says, what did you buy today?! This is a great looking chair, and yes, thrifting is the only way to buy really good quality without the price- what’s a little elbow grease compared to that? :)
Score with the fabric being in such good shape. And…no they do not make furniture like they used too….unless it is a gazillion dollars!

Anna, I agree – hard call on the scratches. Floors especially! :) If you do get them redone just make sure you apply a really great sealer so that they don’t get beat up quite as quickly again. Good luck!

Great find! I almost always buy second-hand furniture for my own place because, like you, I can’t find good quality pieces within my budget. However, I rarely find a piece with such a cute fabric in good condition. I love your answer regarding the scratches too, my boyfriend and I were just having that discussion last night about our wooden floors. Are the scratches and stains character adding yet? Or just plain daggy?!
