Friday Interview: High-Heeled Foot in the Door!

Have you ever found a blog that hooked you immediately? The adventures of Camila and her love for interior design did just that for me over at High-Heeled Foot in the Door.

Camila says it best in her blog introduction: “Follow me as I try to make my dreams of entering the design world a reality. Quite literally I’m trying to get my High-Heeled Foot in the door (ok so most days I’m in ballerina flats, but you get the idea). I’m starting my own Interior Decorating company and this blog allows me to let you all in on it. What inspires your design style?

At time the littlest thing can inspire me. The color on a leaf or a pattern from an old dish and then bam a whole room starts coming to me.

Lately I’ve been finding a lot of inspiration on fashion especially my favorite stores catalogs. I love pouring through the latest JCREW and seeing all the different color combos in outfits that perhaps I wouldn’t have thought of for interiors.

Kate Spade Ads, outfits, shoes, handbags, etc always provide wonderful sources of inspiration. I want to live my life through Kate Spade colored glasses. Everything is just so much better.

What do you love most about what you do?

What are your favorite design trends?

I know it’s been around forever, but I can’t get lucite off my mind. Perhaps it’s because the husband won’t let me have! I also love seeing it mixed with rustic furniture.

Loving the use of campaign furniture! I just wish I had an easier time finding it! You would think in NY there would be plenty on craigslist, but craigslist is brutal here. Things get snatched up immediately!

I think I must be have been a Southern Belle in a previous life, because I love a good monogram. So seeing rooms pop up them on pillows and towels makes me a happy girl.

What are three design suggestions that you would like to offer our readers?

{1} Don’t be afraid of color! If you want to keep your walls neutral go right ahead, but let’s take a step away from copy-cat Pottery Barn catalog rooms. *There is nothing wrong with it I just think you should try and have a bit of fun with your rooms.

If you keep the walls neutral then you can fill the room with pops of color in curtains, chairs, toss pillows. Things that can easily get switched up if you get bored of it.

{2.} Call of the Jungle!

Don’t shy away from animal prints, when done correctly it will come off chic not cheap. Animal prints are a classic and can be used many times as a neutral in a space. If you are really daring try mixing two in a space like designer Joe Nye did below.

{3} Don’t get overwhelmed. Decorating should be a fun process! It shouldn’t cause stress and have you just settling for good enough. If you just don’t get it when it comes to interior design then ask a stylish friend for help, seek out our favorite blogs for inspiration and if you still want help hire someone. You’ll save yourself many tears from paint samples gone wrong or pure frustration due to lack of ideas. Many interior decorators are not as pricey as you think. My rates start at $45 an hour or a set package rate so that you don’t have to worry about hours. Sometimes a one hour consultation, which many designers do give you enough feed back to go out on our own and make it happen. Most times all that is needed for decorating block is a new set of eyes.
