Paloma is the creative mind behind La Dolce Vita, a blog that focuses on ‘the sweet life’ of interior design, fashion, travel, food and inspiring people.
On any given day you might find musings on bold home decor, fall boot trends or an elegant table setting. I’m excited to be hosting an interview about her beautiful blog today and I know you’ll enjoy the ‘sweet’ read!
A bit of Paloma’s favorite inspiration
Founded in the summer of 2007, Paloma began writing as a respite for summer boredom while working as a high school Spanish teacher. In addition to the growing blog, she’s a contributing editor on Circa Lighting’s blog and is the Houston contributor for PinkMemo – an online fashion and style magazine. Finally – Paloma is launching her very own online magazine this coming January, you can read more about High Gloss here!
Paloma has ‘virtually’ sat down with PDB to share her favorite styles, the motivation behind her work and her favorite design suggestions. Follow the jump for the full interview!

What inspires your design style?
I find inspiration through my travels as well as through blogs, and old movies like Auntie Mame. More than anything, I am inspired by colors and patterns. I am not one for decorating with all white or beige!
What do you love most about what you do?
Creating High Gloss, my new online style magazine has been a dream come true. Styling on photo shoots, coming up with the creative direction of High Gloss along with story ideas and the overall tone of the magazine thrills me. I am so lucky to have the most amazing team working with me at High Gloss. I am just in awe of these women. Each one is so incredibly talented in their own right. I think we’re creating something very special, but I may be a little biased! I can’t answer this question without making reference to my blog, La Dolce Vita. Writing it has been one of the most incredible and enriching experiences of my life. It has taught me so much, has taken me to places I never expected to go, and has helped me meet people I never thought I would. If it weren’t for my blog, I’m not sure that I would have ever had the courage to start High Gloss.
What are your favorite design trends?
I don’t consider it trendy, so much as classic, but I absolutely love Greek key! I am obsessed with that motif. I have also loved peacock blue for over a year now. It started getting really popular in late 2009 and I have not been able to shake my love of it. It’s such a beautiful, rich color.
What are three design suggestions that you would like to offer our readers?
{1.} Stay true to your style. Don’t worry about people deeming something trendy or passé. You’re the one who has to live with it!
{2.} Accessorize! Just like an outfit, each room needs accessories, which act as layers and give spaces character. Whether you’re using some fabulous pillows, adding a beautiful lamp, or a bold rug, these little touches make a big impact.
{3.} Add personal touches. Your home should not look like a photo from a sterile catalog. It should have life and speak of you and your interests. If you like to travel, add a framed map.
