Friday Guest Blog Interview: Jen of IHeart Organizing

June 1, 2012 by Morgan

Happy Friday! I can’t believe it’s already the end of the week, four day weeks are just the best. Today I have a great interview to share with you from a very lovely blogger. Jen of IHeart Organizing joins me to answer PDB’s usual four questions, and as she does so she weaves in her favorite decorating and organizing tips! Topics that she’s quite well known for these days (have you spotted her over at BHG? she recently showcased one of my very favorite office spaces). And this idea is one that I hope to copy for Liv’s room very soon!

I love to be organized – there’s something about it that just feels so satisfying, whether it’s the planning, the process or the triumph when you actually go looking for something and you find it immediately! But staying organized is not my forte – I can go weeks and even longer ignoring painfully obvious piles of to-do. So reading Jen’s blog for me is inspiration! A breath of fresh air.

But without further ado… jump on over to read Jen’s interview and to peruse a few of her favorite home pics.

What inspires your design style?

I find inspiration everywhere. I love to look to nature for colors – blues, greens and pops of pink and yellow are my absolute favs. Of course, there is no denying the amount of inspiration found in books, magazines and the blog world. Pinterest has lead me to infinite sites that I never knew about as well, and now I have a project list three miles long.

What do you love most about what you do?

Oooh, I don’t know if I can list just one thing! Everything about blogging has been amazing. Here are the items at the top of the list:

*Chatting daily about my passion
*Being home with my boys
*Meeting readers “virtually” and forming relationships with those who have similar passions
*The sense of community that comes from blogging
*The incredible opportunities that I received due to blogging {HGTV, Nate Berkus and Better Homes & Gardens to name a few!} All a total dream come true!

What are your favorite design trends?

I try not to let myself fall into trends, but find myself doing it anyway. I love anything bright, colorful and fresh feeling. Blues and greens mixed with greys and whites seem to be everywhere, and I am totally soaking that up as well! I have been on the hunt for aged pieces as I am trying to do better about mixing new and old to create a more eclectic feeling throughout our home. Stripes are one of my most favorite “trend”, I am wanting to put them in every room!

What are three design suggestions that you would like to offer our readers?

{1.} Take risks and follow your heart. It will all work out, and all that matters is that you surround yourself with items that have meaning to you and pieces that you love!

{2.} Don’t be afraid of stencils or wallpaper. They are such a great way to take any space to the next level! I personally love to line the backs of all of my bookcases with pretty paper and throw bold stencils on the walls for a major wow factor!

{3.} Always factor in storage as part of any room design. Organizing has a stigma of being sterile, but it really can be beautiful and add a lot to any space. If you go the extra mile to dress up your storage, you will have a stronger desire to maintain your systems. Happy organizing!

Thank you, Jen!
